Goethe German Test vs. Uni Language Tests

As I’m looking at graduate schools with programs in Public History and Library Science, I’m noticing that language proficiency tests are often required.

As part of my history major, I’m required to take 4 semesters of a foreign language. I chose German. However, it will be 2 years between when I stop taking German and when I enter graduate school. Knowing how much Spanish I’ve lost already from high school I have a question.

Will graduate schools accept a certificate of language proficiency from say, the Goethe Institute (run by the German government) instead of requiring me to take a test that I might not be able to pass after two years of no German?
