Going from a 1940 to a 2200, or just completely disregard SAT?

<p>Here’s my situation:
-I took the SAT once and got a 600 M 610 CR and 730 W (even though I was getting high 600’s mid-700’s on BB practice tests)
-I plan on applying early decision to Duke
-My test scores are the only things holding me back from going anywhere I want, literally
-I got a 32 on the ACT</p>

<p>Here’s the problem:
I don’t have time to study! I have SAT II’s May 1 so I have to study for those, then I have AP Exams and then I have SAT’s AND ACT’s within a week of each other in June.</p>

<p>Here’s my question to YOU:
-Should I not take the SAT’s again, and just study extremely hard for the ACT’s during the month b/w AP Exams and ACT’s? I’m just worried because although colleges say they don’t care which test you submit, I feel like the SAT still has the upper-hand.</p>

<p>OR</p>

<p>-Should I take both the SAT and ACT in June and hope to go up in both?</p>

<p>PLEASE HELP</p>

<p>You always have the option of taking the October SAT giving you plenty of time to study over the summer. I’m sure most colleges treat SAT/ACT equally but I have definitely heard rumors of preferential treatment for the SAT. Then again, treat any rumor you hear with a grain of salt.</p>

<p>Yah, I plan on taking the SAT for the 3rd time in October but the only problem is I’m going on a mission trip for 6 weeks over the summer so the only time I’d really have to study would be at night sometimes…</p>

<p>I suggest buying Direct Hits Volumes I/II to help improve your vocabulary.</p>

<p>Take a few more practice tests from BB, assess your weaknesses in Math/CR and brush up on anything you need to improve. Read through DH a few times to improve your SAT vocabulary. </p>

<p>Using just those two study materials should allow you to increase your score quite significantly and you can certainly bring them with you on your mission trip.</p>

<p>Thanks. Besides for DirectHits, what can I do to improve? I’ve taken all 10 tests in the BB</p>

<p>there are other books that the BB. princeton, barrons, etc. have decent practice tests.</p>

<p>Taking a prep class w/ your 1940 won’t help…just practice</p>

<p>Okay, thanks. How much will submitting only the ACT (if I spend time studying for that instead of the SAT) affect my chance at Duke ED? Will no SAT be a hindrance?</p>
