How much is too much enthusiasm towards a school? During my interviews I definitely showed interest in the schools. Although I haven’t had a favorite school there is one school in particular that I see myself leaning towards. I am think about sending a first choice letter… Is this a good idea? Is it too late to send a first choice letter? Also I was thinking about going to a basketball game, since I am very interesting in the basketball program. I would probably go in Febuary. Should I tell the admissions officer I am going or just the coach? Also if I do tell the admissions officer would I be able to set up a mini catch up interview? I really don’t know. Thank you! Let me know!
Regarding the FC letter - see this http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/prep-school-parents/1731399-letting-schools-know-about-top-choice-status-p1.html
Personally, I wouldn’t send a FC letter unless I was 1000000000000% sure about a school - which you said you aren’t, so…
I’ve never heard of a BS" Mini Catch Up Interview"- Ever.
Sending a FC letter has been discussed on two threads recently. Pros and Cons - and different opinions:
Talk to your parents, @prepster1234 and make sure this isn’t a case of nerves . Sometimes it’s wise to wait. If my kid wanted to contact an AO or a Coach while apps were being read in February, I wouldn’t let him- but that’s just me.
36 more days…
Hang in there ![]()
I really wish boarding schools had an early decision type of thing. I wanna know nowww!
Everybody does!!! :)]
There are pros/cons to sending a FC letter. I guess it depends on your situation. Handling the coach is an entirely different matter. The more interaction you can have with the coach, the better. Send a short polite email telling him/her that you will be at an upcoming basketball game and would like a few minutes to chat. If you get a response then you might have some interest.
Coaches can definitely pull for you during the admissions process, but a large factor will depend on how good of an athlete you are.
My DD notified the swim coaches at several schools that she would be attending specific swim meets after the application period ended of her enrollment year and all of the coaches met with her personally. She was accepted at every single one of those school (waitlisted at two where she didn’t attend a meet). I view her as a really good (but not elite) swimmer and three of the four schools are mentioned repeatedly as being of an elite status on this board. While I wouldn’t expect a mini followup interview, certainly letting coaches know you are interested in their program and spending some time watching the team interactions is beneficial.
