@scubasue I think you are exactly right…if the US were to really crack down on the employers, including individuals, then there would be no need to deport everyone as most would be forced to leave. There is no real desire by either political party to do this so the system remains broken…
@scubasue I think/hope that most would agree the 5 year old brought here in 2008 should stay. I think few are willing to agree to this as there are currently no consequences to the parents who willingly broke the laws.
The girl going to UT has only been here for 6 years, which would be after 2007. She (or others on her behalf) claim she’s covered by DACA. How is this possible?
Um, is this a typo? How can a 5 year old be brought here 8 years ago? :-t
? Talking about the example of a child brought here at age 5 in 2008
I think it’s meant that the person was 5 in 2008. That would make the person 5 + 8 or 13 now.
Two…I read 2 articles both of which said the UT student had been here most of her life.
-o Oops! Never mind...
“Lara [the UT bound val], who not only graduated at the top of her class, but also served as class president for the past two years and as the National Honor Society president, said she has lived in the U.S. most her life, in Austin for 15 years.”

the reason that our food has gotten significantly cheaper over the last few decades>>>>>
My grocery bill has gotten horrendously worse just over the last few years.
One good friend is an the head of HR for a big agricultural company. Very early every spring, before the rest of the area’s seasonal labor has kicked into high gear, her company flies in a couple hundred farm workers even though there are plenty of unemployed seasonal workers available. Even with housing, it is a lot cheaper than employing the out of work farmworkers who are already here and available. She says there are a lot of loop holes in the guest worker regulations that allow them to do that. Does the company make sure that all those people get back on the plane at the end of the season? Uh…no.
Until a few years ago I worked as a low level headhunter for a recruiting company in our area. I frequently answered the phones for the guy in charge of doing the labor staffing. I think most of you all would be shocked at the number of employers who would ask us about how to get undocumented workers or just come right out and say 1) they didn’t care whether their employees were documented or not or 2) that was their preference.

OMG, this is crazy. This is just another example of screw everyone but the “ones at the top”, the CEO and his cronies. Screw the workers, screw the consumer, meanwhile, let me buy my third vacation home. @@

You still have the cheapest groceries in the world. And on a real dollar value, groceries cost less than they did 30 or 40 years ago.
