I’ll be a freshman at Brown this the Fall and I come from a small town so whenever I tell someone where I’m going to school, they’re always like “oh my god, Brown…look at you!”

But the truth is, it’s competitive out there and Brown just doesn’t cut it in the real world, compared to HYP. I can’t complain to anyone that I’m going to Brown though, because they’ll just think I’m a stuck-up a-hole.

I applied ED and I love Brown, but I just don’t understand why everyone thinks it’s like the best thing ever when there are clearly better schools.

HYP aren’t that much better than other schools. Look at studies showing students of identical intelligence, regardless of their school, usually do equally well in the future.

Maybe you could make use of your resources (radical idea, right?) instead of complaining, as I’m sure you have everything you could possibly need.

The point isn’t to impress people; you like Brown, and Brown happened to accept you. There’s no need to excuse yourself as to why you didn’t go to HYP. I know a girl who literally turned down Harvard, because she thought another school would suit her better. If you’re basing your self-worth upon how others see you, you might need to reevaluate your priorities.

I think I know what you mean. Are you implying that the Ivy League schools are slightly overrated? Let me clarify what I mean: the Ivy League schools are obviously fantastic schools. However, there’s other schools that are definitely on/above their level, such as Stanford, UChicago, Caltech, MIT, etc.
I think people need to quit putting so much emphasis on the term"Ivy League" or school names in general. You’re obviously going to a phenomenal school and you should obviously be incredibly proud (which I believe you are). However, I think you’re humble enough to realize that just because you’re heading off to Brown, doesn’t mean you’re better than everyone/out to revolutionize the world.

Sorry if I completely missed your point (hopefully I didn’t). I guess I just wanted to rant.

I know a couple of people who dropped out of these “ivy Leagues” actually did revolutionize the world…
And there not really overrated, just many people heard about them. From other thread, they’re the reason I never heard of MIT…

No I don’t know what you mean because what college you go to doesn’t mean anything at all. You’re going to die like everyone else on this planet and everything you accomplished is completely pointless anyway. Perhaps if it makes you feel better, you could write how you got into Brown on your epitaph but no one will really care except for maybe someone who accidentally passes over your gravestone by accident 60 or 70 years from now. Same goes for anyone else who got into an ivy league school which no one cares about either.

Brown is an incredible school, you should not feel it is any less worthy of praise than Harvard, Yale, Princeton or ANY other university! You are incredibly privileged to be able to attend Brown and I wish I could be in your place. Brown does not have the enormous endowments of HYP but it will give you an equally incredible education and experience. Don’t put too much stock into “reputation” because great people can come from less accredited schools. The top LAC’s are the perfect example because they attract impressive applicants without the brand name of the Ivy League.

I know what you mean, and I think one way to possibly relieve this pent-up stress is to consider people who get accepted to HYP and Brown, and choose Brown instead, whether it’s because of its open-curriculum, neuroscience excellence, or something else entirely.
This will help you realize that even though you didn’t get into HYP for whatever reason, you’ll still be among those that did.
