To clarify, I mean Durham, Carolina.

i don’t know, but is your essay sufficiently compelling? - remember, you’re up against people who are basically just as qualified as you… the essay is what makes the difference amongst 5 kids with the same score

it’s cliche but a hook will make a difference. why do they want you? that’s the only reason i was let in :p

Which essay are you asking about? And I was under the impression hooks are things generally out of your own control, like urm, first gen college, legacy, etc.

Your stats look great… academics, awards, leadership, service, work, other e.c.'s, etc. Looks like you’ve had a really successful high school career. I’d suggest just relaxing at this point because admissions to the more competitive colleges can seem somewhat random now, and so from here on out, it really isn’t in your control that much. I suspect you would do quite well at Duke or any number of schools.

You have a fantastic shot. Good ECs, good stats, and if you are correct in judging yourself, good essays. If all this is true, I belive you have a gimungo chance of getting in: as in you probably will.

Just got my subject test results: Lit 750 and US 760. Does this have any effect?

Just FYI, James Taylor wrote “Carolina in my Mind” about his Carolina hometown (drumroll please…) Chapel Hill. Not the best Duke-fan song  Good luck in Durham and elsewhere.

I’ve never heard anyone call Duke “Carolina” before. People are usually referring to Chapel Hill when they say that.
Your stats look good to me! But I’m no expert, so take anything I say with a grain of salt  For your clubs (debate, newspaper, etc.), how long have you been in them? If you’ve been in them for 3/4 yrs, that’s great, but not so much if you’ve only just joined.
Oh, I love that the president position in National Latin Honor Society is ‘consul’ We have a Latin club, but there’s not enough kids taking Latin to bother with the Honor Society, sadly…
I think you have a great chance (especially as a Siemens/golf athlete scholar), so good luck!!

I thought if you did well in Siemen’s you were good near everywhere.
