i’m enrolled in math 3C with goldbring, but his reviews on bruinwalk are lukewarm at best…
i’m not particularly strong in stat, either…
any thoughts from someone who’s had goldbring or will have it with me this fall?
anything you recommend i take instead of 3c, for a premed/mcdbio major?

If you like calculus better than stats, you can take Math 32A instead of Math 3C. If you look on your DPR it should say “Math 3A, 3B, 3C OR Math 31A, 31B, 32A” for the prereq math classes.
And I just looked at Dr. Goldbring’s reviews out of curiosity and they seem good. Not a lot of math professors have such good reviews.
This is from personal experience, but interesting material >>> interesting professor. The professor will be able to summarize concepts, but learning (esp. for chem and math) is mostly individual studying. So if you like the material more, naturally, you’ll end up getting a good grade even if the professor might be iffy. Just don’t let bad reviews from a bunch of random people on bruinwalk be the only reason you drop a class! I’ve done that and I’ve definitely regretted it.

Unless you’re really good at calculus (can keep up with the engineers) I would stick with 3C. I’m in Stats 13 right now and having a background from Math 3C is definitely a benefit. You’re going to have to take stats eventually, so why not get a solid background in it with what seems like a decent professor right now.

alright sounds good! my other option was to drop math and take 2 GEs instead, but maybe that’s not such a smart idea, especially with everything pretty much full atm.

orrrr maybe i should enroll in another GE just in case i drop goldbring? thoughts?

What does your fall schedule look like right now? I don’t understand why you would want to take 2 GE’s. That would just be too easy and I think it wouldn’t be very productive. Why are you so scared about the difficulty of 3C. If you are getting scared based on Bruinwalk, then you should just take that with a grain of salt. The people who got bad grades are going to post all kinds of bad reviews on Bruinwalk and the people with decent to high grades will post just a few reviews. I took Martin for math 32a. I’m pretty sure his reviews are all bad, but that didn’t stop me from taking the class and I ended up with an A

my current schedule is: math 3c with goldbring, chem14a with scerri, and classics 20 with gurval.
i was thinking of doing, if you guys suggested i drop goldbring, that i take chem14a, classics 20, and 2 other GEs (for total of 4 classes)

3 GE’s!!! I would just do 1 GE every quarter rather than doing 3 your first quarter. One core class and 3 GE’s just seems like a waste of a quarter to me. Scerri is very easy. I had him for 20A. He’s teaching style is pretty much the same for 14a. Just memorize the course reader and get a study group together to tackle the homeworks and Thinkwell quizzes. That’s what I did and I got an A+. I’m also enrolled in classics 20 and the reviews say it is really easy if you have a decent TA. Goldbring has decent reviews on Bruinwalk and 3C is just Stats so if you are sketchy on calculus (which I doubt you are, since you are going straight into 3C) I don’t think it will have much of an effect on your performance in this class. So I don’t know why you are worrying about Goldbring, and if it does turn out that this is a difficult class you have office hours, TA office hours, and you can go to the Student Math Center for additional help. If you drop the class now, you will have to take it eventually…so I’m having trouble seeing why you would want to drop it now

LOL good point man. thanks for saving me from freaking out ahahahhaha. i guess i’ll just stick to my original schedule (: which is honestly beautifully planned.
