Golden Globes

Sort of surprised not to see a thread on last night’s Golden Globes.

I’m not always a big awards show watcher, but nothing else was on and D and I got caught up in the red carpet (sometimes my favorite part of the awards shows - fully cheesy!!!)

A few notes from last night:

Red carpet: loved Sarah Hyland (Modern Family, Haley), Julieanne Hough - the top part of her dress - a little too fru-fru on the bottom, Jennifer Lawrence’s color - wow, loved it, Jodie Foster, Halle Berry -sooo pretty! I also liked one but don’t know her name - it was actually a top and skirt - white background with flowerish thingies on it - she had little make up on but just looked very, very not over the top but cute and different.

Loved Tina Fey and Poehler! Funny, not too brash (scored points for me with the Taylor Swift comment - though at the expense of MJ Fox’s son!)

Anne Hathaway - adorable, adorable haircut! So cute and I loved her comments to Sally Field - very true!

Also Will Ferrell and his partner - great comedic timing and entertaining!

Jodie Foster! What to say?! Brilliant but scattered speech? Not sure what I learned - did she come out as a lesbian (did we not know this before - I haven’t followed her for ages)? Did she retire or just request privacy??? For sure, she looks great at 50!!!

Had to give it up at 10:30 for bed, but a pretty entertaining night of watching. Your thoughts???

I usually try to catch the Oscars, but that’s about it. Gosh, these people LOVE to give each other awards! How many awards shows per year for the entertainment industry?

I do have a curiosity about Argo now that Ben won the best director award.

Adding to say, Jodie’s words to her mother who apparently suffers from dementia - so eloquently said and fully touching. Tingles thinking about it.

I didn’t watch a bit of the Golden Globes but found this interesting: [Golden Globe Awards 2013: Best and Worst Dressed | Photo Gallery - Yahoo!](<a href=“Golden Globe Awards 2013: Best and Worst Dressed”>http://gma.yahoo.com/photos/golden-globe-awards-2013-best-and-worst-dressed-slideshow/nbc-s-70th-annual-golden-globe-awards-red-carpet-arrivals-anne-hathaway-photo-916128097.html)

Agree. I found Jodie to be pretty irritating, but the words to her mom were quite touching.

I always love how many of the dresses make it to both the Best and the Worst lists.

I think it was widely known for many years that Jodie Foster is gay, but apparently she never made a public announcement. I thought the message she was trying to convey was that yes, she obviously is gay, but her personal privacy is more important so she doesn’t feel the need to make the classic, cliche’d celebrity announcement.

Since you mentioned it, I thought Jennifer Lawrence’s red dress had the strangest most unflattering “top” I have ever seen. I wondered if it was a costume from the Hunger Games movie. (I worked on the upcoming sequel btw)

I was thrilled to see Homeland win 3 GG’s because now I can say I worked on a Golden Globe winning show! (Don’t ask for my autograph yet, I worked as a background extra, emphasis on “background” as in, “fade into the background”)

Well…I am glad Homeland won even though I never worked on the show. I am happy Girls won also. So 2 of the 3 shows I watch on a regular basis won. :)

I forgot to record the red carpet - which is the only thing I really care about and couldn’t record the show because I was recording the tennis and Downton. :frowning:

Off to set Fashion Police to record…

Last night was a true media dilemma! What to watch? What to tape? Watch football, GG red carpet, or Corvette Reveal live from Detroit??? And later, tape Downton while watching the GG… but what about the Good Wife? Such agonizing choices!

Not to mention Once Upon A Time, and Revenge. And trying to watch as much Homeland on Showtime Freeview as possible - we don’t subscribe, it was only free through 11:00 pm. It’s hard enough without an award show thrown in the mix! I’m off to watch DA On Demand, although I caught the last scene in the church during a commercial so am spoiled.

This is why my sister says she needs a Tivo box on every set. She can record 4 (or maybe it’s 8!) shows at a time on each box and she has 5 boxes!

I have no idea how she watches everything she records but apparently she does.

Jennifer Lopez was panned in the link kathiep posted. However, I disagree. I think that dress was fabulous. It is Hollywood after all where showing it all is not uncommon. Most people could not pull it off, but JLo can.

I thought JLOs dress was expected and therefore boring. Love Tiny Fey and Amy Poehler, loved that Ben Affleck got some kudos. Iusually could care less but thought it was intertaining, didnt love les Mis but love Hug Jackman and Anne Hathaway’s speech

I find awards shows amusing and this one in particular. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association has like 90 members. You have to live in SoCal, be accredited by the Motion Picture Association of America and provide clippings showing you’ve had 4 articles published that year to remain a member. Apparently not much of a requirement about the kind of publication. The MPAA, btw, is the trade group for 6 studios, responsible for anti-piracy and ratings not the Oscars. So you have some subset of maybe 90 people voting with no idea whether they’ve even watched the stuff. (Though my favorite is when Pia Zadora won for best newcomer after her husband took the voters to Vegas.)

The People’s Choice Awards, which ran like last week, are determined by polls. The nominees are determined by polls and then the winners by polls. In other words, survey says!

I like the dresses though truthfully I think women look better when they’re not made up that much.
