Golden Globes

The show, especially the clip honoring Merele Strep was excellent. Anyone else enjoyed it?

I’m watching. Enjoyed Meryl’s comments. Her winning a lifetime achievement award makes me feel old.

Too many commercials, not loving a lot of the dresses, but still enjoying it.

Glad to see La La Land clean up. Great movie.

Glad Claire Foy and The Crown won.

Meryl Streep was extremely gracious and extremely biting at the same time. Good for her. I’m glad for the wins for “The Night Manager”'s stars, Tracee Ellis Ross, Claire Foy (watch “Wolf Hall” if you haven’t seen it yet), and Ryan Gosling.

I’m flipping between tennis and GG. So many commercials I’m not missing much of either.

yeah, dresses are disappointing and some were truly unfortunate.

Merle has an amazing body of work and has done a ton of different roles. She is very talented. I think she made an important point.

I don’t watch these things but Meryl’s speech was trending on facebook and I’m now crying. My respect for her just grew even more.

I have such respect for her! She is a good and strong role model. I hope she continues to inspire!

I wish Ricky Gervais was hosting again.

I loved Meryl Streep’s speech but I couldn’t help but notice the faces of some of the men in the audience watching her. Colin Farrell, Mel Gibson, etc., just what were they thinking? I probably don’t want to know.

I noticed the same thing!

I was mainly just watching Merle. I didn’t bother watching the men watching her. They were irrelevant to me. She has had an amazing career.

Meryl will either be highly praised or really condemned for what she said. But I respect that she spoke from her heart and actually put the attention on something that she feels strong aboutly about rather than keeping it on herself. She is a classy talented lady…
Of course a certain tweeter will say she is “highly overrated,” just like Hamilton.

I skipped the GG and went to see La la Land instead. A sweet, touching, charming movie (though a wee bit – just a bit! – over-hyped.)

Then I caught Meryl Steep’s speech on YouTube.

“Take your broken heart and make art.” Love this.

Mary Louise Streep. VC class of '71. You go girl!

I enjoyed the opening number recreating the beginning of La La Land, Ryan Gosling’s win and speech, Meryl’s body of work - wow - I forgot just how many of her movies I’ve seen and liked, and her speech. Listening to her talk, I momentarily forgot she was up there to accept a lifetime achievement award. No focus on herself- all focus outward. I loved how she named so many actors/actresses and where they came from, as well as the rest of her message.

I was amused by the very positive reaction Brad Pitt elicited when he walked out to announce some award. Does this mean that those in attendance largely side with Team Brad?

I liked Blake Livelys dress the best, Reese’s was pretty and Nicole’s interesting as usual. I liked it, although a bit odd.

@morrismm How prophetic you are. The predicted twitter storm does indeed characterize her as overrated
