According to my MIT-accepted friends, during freshman orientation, everyone downs a “goldfish shot”. True/False?

…

They are pulling your leg.

There is indeed a goldfish party (or, at least, used to be) every year at DTD, one of the fraternities. But I think it’s held during CPW, and I am also not totally clear on the involvement of the goldfish insofar as drinking goes.

But there’s no frat party that anybody’s required to attend, nor are party attendees ever required to imbibe.

^lol Chris.

The Goldfish party is held during CPW, and I’m pretty sure that “goldfish shots” are available for consumption (or at least used to be), but certainly not “everyone” does it, or even a lot of people.

Because I am dumb, I always thought it was a Goldfish (like, Goldfish crackers) party, and I was really disappointed when I found out it involved Carassius auratus.

I still think a Goldfish crackers party would be an awesome idea. You could have all the different flavors of Goldfish, and finish off with graham cracker Goldfish for dessert!

Man, and I thought the idea of Goldfish-cracker-shots was gross… Well thanks for the clarification.

Still exists! Not during Orientation though. Other than CPW, you might be able to find it at 1-2 other occasions during the school year.

It’s really not as disgusting as it sounds, but I feel really bad for the fish : (

^ can you feel it squirming? How do you swallow it? I can barely swallow kid pills.

Somebody once won a Darwin Award when his attempt to eat a live goldfish went horribly awry. Somebody should point this out to DTD.

Then again, people will eat just about anything live these days…

Well, the goldfish are pretty small, so they’re isn’t that much of a chance of choking on them.

Yeah, that guy’s goldfish is 5 inches long. The ones they use in goldfish shots are barely an inch or just over an inch long (they fit comfortably in a shot glass).

^ sounds so gross…
