I recently learned that Penn state has a golf course at university park. Do any of you guys know if students can use it/take lessons etc?

Don’t know about regular access/lessons - but PSU requires students to take 3 hours of Health & Physical Activity classes - and golf is offered as one of the options.

Now that sounds interesting! When you say that Penn state requires students to take these classes you mean that they count towards getting your degree?

Yup - counts toward your degree. (Note: be sure to check specific degree curriculum for any special requirements)

This link shows the Health & Physical Activity courses

Thanks a lot for the info! I believe that engineering degrees (aerospace for me) it doesn’t count towards your degree :/

Look at page 5 of the link below. The 5th and 7th semesters both require 1.5 hours of Health & Physical Activity (GHA).

These General Ed classes are university requirements. Everyone has to fulfill them. The only difference is that some curricula may specify courses for students to take - ones that fulfill the Gen Ed requirement AND the degree requirements. For example, Arch Engr requires you to take several Architecture courses, which fulfill the Gen Ed Arts requirement.

I’m going to buy a membership for the summer/fall. For students, I think it’s around $200

Golf is definitely available as a GHA. It is always funny to see the introductory classes out on the course, getting instruction in how to drive and park the carts.

LOL!!! 1moremom - maybe I need to take that class! DS#2 is my golfer (varsity team) and he just cringes whenever I drive a golf cart!
