I want to get my dh a gps for golf courses. I am leaning towards the Garmin G5 approach. Any pros or cons or should I be looking at a different one. As a non golfer, I appreciate your advise. Thanks@

GPS are okay for golfing, but many serious golfers prefer Laser Range Finders. Bushnell makes the best ones. Go into a golf store in your area and talk to the guys that work there, they are incredibly knowledgeable. If you live in the Southeast, Edwin Watts is the best.

I just asked my husband who I guess qualifies as a serious golfer. He said he has a Laser Link Range Finder and a Sky Caddy GPS and he uses both of them a lot. He said if he had to choose one, it would be the Sky Caddy. He did say the Bushnell is better than the Laser Link but it’s also bigger so if you carry your bag, it makes a difference. The Laser Link can only be used if the club is equipped for Laser Link and the Bushnell can be used anywhere. He also said if your home course has Laser Link and that’s where you mostly play, that he would go with the Laser Link. The Sky Caddy requires a subscription fee and he said it worked on about half the courses he played in Ireland but pretty much all the courses he’s played in the US.

I don’t actually know what I’m talking about so I hope I got that right
I haven’t played golf in years and would never have used any of the above, I was happy to just hit the ball in the right direction.

We have the Sky Caddy, after having a Golf Buddy. Sky Caddy is NOT the cheapest, but we love it.

However, I agree. Go into a full-service golf store and talk to the staff. If we had done that, we wouldn’t have bought the wrong one first.
