Gone to Texas

A severe letdown this year.

My observations:

What was that horrible music at the start? Do they know how awesome Lil Wayne would sound through those big speakers?

Guitar player: You spent 70,000 dollars to learn how to write music and play a guitar. The people who make money in music have the talent without college lessons.

Dancers: I have seen better performances by the dance club from my school. Plus I couldn’t understand the words.

Gospel? Choir: Stick to the original version. Its like a fight song, you can’t change a fight song or it is no longer the fight song.

Very many boring guys went up to speak also.

Fireworks: We couldn’t afford any this year so here is a a video of them from before.

I thought this was supposed to be a big party, instead they tried to put me to sleep and make the crowd sluggish through their weird music. If you want to bill it as a party make it one.

Glad I skipped out on it, then. :x

I personally enjoyed it. Nothing amazing, but it wasn’t a horrible way to spend an hour. If I’m not mistaken, the fireworks had something to do with graduation (since they came during that montage), not gone to Texas (I’m not sure about this though).

Yea I thought it was ok. I guess I didn’t really know what to expect though so I didn’t have any high expectations. But I learned some interesting stuff about our customs and the history behind them :)

I completely agree on the gospel/choir. Church choirs dont need to put their own spin on the fight song

If you feel that way, why don’t you speak to the co-op guy who was in charge of the celebration. It takes a lot to put so many people together.
I had a good time overall.

Hey, hey. Don’t hate. The guitarist was also an urban studies major. He’s not going to college to learn the guitar; he’s in the school of music for composition. Also, the dancers were doing classical Bharat Natyam Indian dance to remixed traditional music. The combination was kind of odd, I’ll give you that. But it was still well-done dancing as far as classical Indian dance is concerned.

I’m kind of neutral on the gospel stuff. I was disappointed that there were no fireworks, though. Overall, however, it was not terrible. I was certainly inspired!

harsh…You would have preferred Lil Wayne? That explains a lot.

don’t feed the ■■■■■, guys :P

I was there late but got to see the parts I like -the band, the audience (many students in matching t’s from their new school or program), the tower lit up with a “1 4,” and the giant Texas flag (APO). I missed the dancers and the choir. I really liked the parts I saw. When I saw it last year, I thought I’d never see it again, so it was an unusual event and a bit of a treat to get to see it again. (One of us had to rent a car to get daughter’s stuff out of storage, and since daughter’s summer job contract ended Sunday, the fly down, move in, unpack, “shop while you have a car available” was a Monday Tuesday thing for us this year - it’s not like I’ve been here here in town stalking my daughter and her friends - seriously!) Glad to spot a few other parents around. :)

There were no fireworks last year or the year before, either.

they had burn bans in Austin anyways because it was freakin hot as phoenix here, but I wasnt sure if that Applies to UT’s GGT program though.

The people who make money in music usually don’t have the talent…that’s the sad part. He went to college to do what he loves. I definitely commend him on that. And he can certainly play. The better artists are the ones who go through the hard work. The people who make the money are there to look good. Most of them are terrible. And composition is certainly an art. It takes a lot of instruction and being around different types of music to do it well. Most who are successful have certainly been to college.

I thought it was good overall. Really all it is is a done-up convocation. It outdid the one I went to at Baylor by light years. So props to Texas.

Was the football team there? I didn’t see them on the webcast. Last year Mac Brown and the team were front and center.

I didn’t see the football team at GTT last year. You aren’t thinking of the Hex Rally, are you?
