What do you think is a good amount of APs to take as a junior?

4 is the most any junior at my school is taking, as a class, but i’m taking 1 self study so i have the most in my grade (5) i dunno how it is at other schools though

It really depends on how much work you want to do, and whether you’re interested in the subjects. If you’re interested in them, then take as many as you want. I don’t know about other schools, but some AP classes at my school don’t really give much work. 3 or 4 APs seems to be a good number.

My school is really competitive (we’re in the top 50~75 of the US, >80% asian)
Any honors student hoping to make it into a decent college (UCB or better) would take at least 3. the average is 4, but a lot manage 6.

“Decent college (UCB or better)”

^ Wow, that is such a load of bull. UCB is one of the top 50 schools in the country, no doubt. This kid is nuts and it is probably because of his school environment ^

Okay… if you want to be like on track for what the juniors are doing:

Top 5%: Four or More
Top 5-10%: Three
Top 10-30%: One or Two
Rest: None

I took five last year as a junior, and it wasn’t that bad.

I think three or four is quite manageable depending on which ones you take.

I’m taking five as a junior (self-studying three). I think that’ll be the most at my school.

It really depends on the context of your school…

What about sophomores? lol

I took 6 APs as a Junior.

Took 5 APs as a junior, US Govt, French Lang, Eng Lang, Bio, and Phys B. Most people at my school only do 1-3 their junior year (yeah it’s not that competitive) although I think there was one person, a senior, last year who took 6 AP tests.
