good and bad factors?

Hi, I’m a junior in high school (graduating 2017) and I am interested in attending a UC.

soph:
Honors Chem: B/C+
French: A/A
Pre-calc: A/A
PE: A/A
World History: A/A
English: A/A

as of now, with a few tests/quizzes:
AP Bio: A
AP Psych: A
French 3: A
US History: A
AP Calc (AB): A
English: A

SAT:
w: 560
m: 650
cr: 590
total: 1800 (this is without studying, I plan to retake it this upcoming November)
Also going to take the PSAT and ACT this October.

ECs:

  • have been in a Christian dance group with performances for 5 years, taught the dance group when leaders/teachers left for about a few months before ending the group.
  • Korean drum class (Nanta) for around 3 years (performed at San Jose City Hall, many business places (ie. KOTRA), attended a business meeting about Korean land disputes with Bay Area Korean officials, volunteered at churches)
  • Mission trips: 2 years in Mexico (summers after 6th and 7th grade) and 2 years in Guatemala (summers after 9th and 10th grade). taught English, cleaned houses, painted buildings, etc.
  • joined two clubs this year: 1) Best Buddies- socializing with mentally ill/special education students and becoming at the high school, and 2) Lights- supports stopping human trafficking
  • only did softball for sophomore year (JV)

So, what are my chances? I know that schools are very selective, but I would like to try my best and get into a socal uc, preferably UCLA. Please give me advice instead of saying, “You’re hopeless” or “Don’t even try” because I am very aware of the competition. For taking time to read yet another “what are my chances” of a hs student, thank you!

oops sorry, the mission trips are the summers AFTER not BEFORE, so summers AFTER 6th and 7th grade, 9th and 10th, OR before 7th and 8th, 9th and 10th.

^ i fixed it :-bd

Forget about your poor SAT score without practicing, what is your current practice score? You should have started preparing for the test as PSAT and ACT are coming very soon. It was a very bad idea to take the SAT without prep. I hope you are not repeating that again. With a baseline score like that, you should have started preparing for the tests over the summer. Otherwise, your chance at UCLA would be very low. It is very hard to get a 300+ point boost particularly when you have no time to practice.

Since you have not finished your Junior year, you cannot calculate your UC:http://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/

Other than your Honors Chem grades, your grades look good so far. Your SAT score needs a bump up to around a 2100+ for a decent chance at UCLA. Your EC’s and essays will also be considered as part of the admissions review, so make sure they are outstanding.

Once you have your retake SAT and UC GPA, come back and repost for a better chancing.

Good Luck.

In my opinion one C in the sophomore year would not kill your chance for UCLA as long as you get all A’s this year (which looks like you are on track!) and get a good SAT score (2200+).
Good luck!
