Good backup school for engineering

I want to major in aerospace engineering or possibly mechanical and so far Im going to apply to Cal Poly SLO, UCSD, UCSB, and UCI but I dont know what backup school I should apply to. My brother goes to UCR so I ruled that one out and I would have to commute to Cal Poly Pomona so I dont really want to go there but other than those 2 I dont really know what schools have a good engineering program that I can rely on getting into.

Here are my stats:
weighted GPA: 4.4
non-weighted: 3.8
in the top 5% at my school (do colleges even look at that?)

SAT: 1860 (im going to retake it)
ACT: 30

EC’s: marching band - 4 years
FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) - 2 years
tutoring - 1 year

I know my SAT and EC’s are lacking but I am retaking the SAT and theres not much I can do now about EC’s although Im not really giving up. I still want to do some community service stuff through Habitat for Humanity but I dont know if colleges will see senior year community service.

And one last thing, Im looking solely at schools in California due to financial issues.

What was your Math score on the SAT?, you need at least a 600 to have almost any chance at all of successfully majoring in Engineering. To have a decent chance you would need a 650 or better.

My math SAT score is 700 so I’m not too worried about that. Its my critical reading and writing both currently at 580 that I need to improve on. I’m not terribly concerned about how Ill do in engineering but rather what schools have a good engineering program that would serve as a good backup for me and I can be certain that I will get in.
