I just finished my freshmen year in high school and I saw that some tutoring/prep group was offering a free practice ACT at our library, it was apparently one of the older actual ACT’s. So I took it with absolutely no prep because I just wanted to know what it was like and I got a 26 composite score. Is that good or bad for a freshmen?

A 26 is definitely good for an incoming sophomore, especially with no prep at all. With some studying, you could easily be in the 30s by the time you are a junior. The average is only a 21 anyway.

A 26 puts you about the 85th percentile of all ACT test takers, most of whom are second-semester juniors. So for a freshman, that’s very good indeed.
