Hi guys
I need a list of good books to buy for calculus and english literature.

Here is a calculus book:
<a href=“Textbook | Calculus Online Textbook | Supplemental Resources | MIT OpenCourseWare”>http://ocw.mit.edu/resources/res-18-001-calculus-online-textbook-spring-2005/textbook/

For English literature, there are lots of possible books to read. You can ask any high school or college English teacher for suggested lists, although they will vary.

Khan Academy isn’t a book, but it’s a great online resource for learning calculus.

There’s a Coursera Calc course from UPenn starting in about 20 days, you can take it before entering the Fall semester. I recommend that. There’s also Khan Academy.

Book-wise, it depends. Are you new to Calculus? Then just do Stewart’s Calculus: Early Transcendentals. It’s simple. It’s basically “Here’s how you do X. Now do 30 exercises.” You will most likely use it in a Calc I or II course.

If you are not new to college math and have taken a course where you learned about logic, proofs and mathematical thinking in general, then Spivak’s or Apostol’s Calculus books would be great. They are more like “Here’s how X works, why it works, and where it comes from”. They are pretty tough though, and I would not recommend them for someone who just wants to pass Calc or use it for an Engineering class.

Calc 2 for dummies helped me alot. Didn’t use anything for Calc 1.
