In terms of GPA, I’ve heard mixed things about honors colleges:

some say that going to an honors college = grade inflation because less classes are graded on a curve.

others say that its more competitive (as in the students there are of course smarter), so your GPA goes down.

What do you guys think?

I believe you have to maintain a certain GPA in order to stay in the Honors Program in most Honor Colleges. So you shall be one of the top students when you graduate from an Honor Program

yeah, but my question is are the honors courses that much harder so that its hard to get good grades, or are they only slightly more challenging?

The grade question is not easy to answer since it has a lot to do with the teacher. In most colleges there are many sections of the same course that taught by different instructors. Some might be easier in grading than others. I do not believe honor courses are necessary harder but it depends. If your goal is to get a good education rather than worry too much about grades, you shall do fine.
