I’m a student from N.C., at a public high school. In a moderately big town around 100k population. I have done great throughout high school, currently ranked 1st in my class at the most well known academic school in the South Eastern part of the state. I recently took the SAT with mixed results 48/52 on reading and bombed grammar, 23/44, obviously not great. Really just hadn’t seen a lot of stuff in a while and made dumb mistakes. There is certainly room for improvement, thinking easily I can get EBWR scores up for 610 to 680-700 range by the next test June 1st. Math I got 670, again not great but reviewing my answers I made multiple dumb mistakes that hurt me. Pretty confident I should be able to get up to 690-700 with some more effort as I’ve been studying very hard the past few weeks. So with my class rank (1st) and if I was to get up to say 1400-1470 would I have a chance to get into selective colleges really want to get into Duke, will probably apply to some ivies and a few out of state schools along with N.C. state and UNC. I played golf and wrestled in high school, did national honor society was class president. Wondering what are my chances of getting into duke and maybe Penn.
Speaking as an SAT tutor, you should be able to get both your EBRW and math scores into the 700s. Without getting your scores into the 700s (and probably mid-700s for a total of 1500) your chances are very slim (unless you are omitting anything of significance).
