Good College Info Site

If you can deal with the ads, CampusDirt[/url">http://www.campusdirt.com/?id=AFL_188"]CampusDirt is a great free site that is based heavily off real student testimonials and suveys. Worth a look for anyone starting a search.

One caveat: Campus Dirt does NOT say how many students were surveyed on each campus. We don’t know whether it is one, two, or a thousand. Therefore, take any comments and “statistics” there with a grain of salt: another data point, but probably not statistically accurate.

Accuracy increases the more data you have. In addition to campus dirt, look at the reviews of individual schools at www.eopinion.com, studentsreview.com, and here on CC. I also like to do an interest search on livejournal.com to see if there is an active discussion group for a specific college. And, a search of the college’s web site for the student newspaper and a hour or two reading back archives is also a great way to get a sense of the campus culture and what life is like.

Put all of these together, and you’re going to come pretty close to understanding whether a college is possibly a good fit for you or not.
