Good college record offset bad high school one?

I am planning on applying EA to Columbia GS for the fall of 2008…My main question concerns my past transcripts…In high school, i did poorly, not really caring about school at all…My high school transcript is much less than impressive…Since going back to college, I have consecutive 4.0 semesters at a top NJ community college…Will the admissions board look at this favorably since my grades have been constantly improving, or will the bad high school transcript be too much to overcome?

Id say to use that to your advantage. Mention it in your letter. Logically they should care about the student you are now; not the one you were before.

test scores will also figure prominently. a lot of people can get 4.0s at community colleges by working decently hard and not being brain dead, but not all of those 4.0s are proof that someone is capable to handle (or deserving of) the environment at a place like Columbia. not all GPAs are created equal.

I agree…I am planning on taking the general studies admissions exam because i never took the SATs or ACTs…I am also not applying to any other schools, so there is no reason to take them now…I figure if i write a bang-up essay, get some good recs, and do good on that test (which i hear is not too challenging), I might have a decent chance…Plus my dad is alumni at Columbia GS, so im sure they will take that into account
