Personally which form do you think is better online or traditional in class instruction? I don’t want to do a course in the summer for credit recovery, I would like to do one for credit advancement.
I’ve completed these courses and I am currently a freshman
Spanish 1 (8th grade)
Honors Algebra 1 (8th grade)
Economics
Civics
Honors Geometry
English 9
Beginning Programming
Health
Biology
Spanish 2
Art
PE 1
I need at minimum:
1/2 fine arts
US History (15-16 school year)
World History
Chemistry (Taking Honors 15-16 school year, this class is intended for students who would like to major in science)
Physics
Algebra 2 (Taking Honors 15-16 school year)
Pre-caclus
AP Calculus
American Literature (Taking Honors 15-16 school year)
World Literature
4th year English
My schedule is basically the hardest a 9th grader interested in the sciences can get, I know it’s pathetic. I refuse to do my fine arts credit in the summer, I’m signed up for Engineering 1 next year, which will count for it, and I want to do that class. I refuse to do math, because I had to overcome a lot to get where I am in math today. I don’t want to do science in the summer because Honors Chemistry, which I’m taking next year, is one of the hardest classes in the school, but great Pre-AP.
I don’t think it’s a good idea to do American Literature in the summer, but I’m open to it. I want to do US History in the summer, but I’d like to hear other experiences.
Did anyone here take courses in the summer? What would you recommend?
Fine Arts and World History would probably be good to do over the summer. I’d do WH before USH, but that is just my personal opinion. Okay, so you said you’re taking Chemistry next school year, so don’t do that over the summer. Definitely not Physics if you haven’t had the math needed. If you’re taking Algebra II next school year, then you cannot do AP Calc or Pre-Calc. American Literature I would leave as is. You could do World junior year and then AP Lit senior year (as a 4th year)?
Arts credits are definitely an easy thing to do over the summer. Most people do World before US. If you can find a good WH class than take it. How are you on foreign languages?
I’m pretty good in world languages. I’ve held about a 98% all year, but the thing is I am in Spanish 2 right now and I cannot find a summer school class for it. I couldn’t imagine that class without a teacher anyway. I’ll be doing 3 next year. I plan on going through AP Spanish 5.
I think they pair US and American Literature because the history and the literature overlaps part of the year. Same thing with World Literature and World History. They do one big term paper for both classes. Though I’m sure they’d work something out with me. I was thinking AP Lit senior year.
It’d be a little tougher convincing my counselor to let me do this.
As long as you’re getting through 4 years of a language, then that’s fine. If you do not do WH over the summer, then the only “good course to do in summer school” would be an art credit.
Summer school may not be the only way to go–check out your local community college to see what courses they have. Your school may accept the credit, but even if it doesn’t, you can submit your community college transcript with your high school one to show you took initiative in learning.
I tried that. My counselor said I would have to take every course my high school offers first. Ex to do Calc at CC I would have to have been through AP Calc BC, Chem I would have to be through H chem and AP Chem. I am not happy with that answer.
Uh… Not necessarily. Calc 1 at a CC is equivalent to AP Calc AB, Calc II to BC, Calc III to Multivar… And Chem 1 would be equivalent to, if not easier than, AP Chem. Check with your community college, not your counselor. Deadlines for applying for summer courses should be approaching soon.
I think you should do Algebra 2 or World History over the summer
