Good Credit Card to Earn Frequent Flyer Miles for Star Alliance/ Lufthansa?

I’ve had a USAirways credit card for many years and used it to earn frequent flyer miles.

I’ve used these miles to make three trips to Germany in the last four years, so it’s worked out well for me.

On my last trip, I was able to fly Lufthansa, as both USAirways and Lufthansa were members of the Star Alliance.

Now USAirways has been acquired by American Airlines, so they are no longer a member of the Star Alliance.

What is a good credit card for me to acquire so that I can accrue miles at a good pace and fly Lufthansa?

Is there a website that provides this type of info?

thepointsguy dot com has lots of great info on maximizing credit cards for travel purposes. A lot depends on your location and spending habits. Their search engine will tell you which airlines are currently Star Alliance members and also partners with Lufthansa. Pizzagirl, busdriver11 and GMTplus7 might have better input than I do…

I don’t have any advice, as my miles are through trips and not credit cards, but you might want to look at the Flyertalk forum.

Thanks for the pointers!

United is in Star Alliance, and the United Explorer card will help you get those miles to use on Lufthansa. In addition, there are car insurance benefits, free luggage, and early boarding for card members. The website mentioned above has the info. You need to try to maximize your free miles on sign up, add a family member. Read the fine print before signing up.

In addition, TPG is a proponent of a few other cards that give miles to transfer to other airlines.
