Good Dog Eats $4,000

Gift link - I found this hilarious! Fortunately our dogs never did anything like this, although they did chew up a refund check and ate the kid’s homework.

Elroy the mighty Vizsla once ate my car.

SO took him to the mall and left him in the car for an hour and a half (this was November, so there wasn’t an overheating risk…). He did a number on the headliner, seats, and chewed through a seatbelt. It was time for a newer car, but still, I wasn’t planning on getting a new one pronto.

Friend’s dog actually ate the check that was sent from their 401k that was being converted to a Roth…ate the whole thing. Over $500,000. Check needed to be stopped and reissued!

Our family dog did this on a road trip while we ran into a diner for dinner. The diner still exists, and even now, decades later, we always recall --with amazement- how every seatbelt got chewed through in less than an hour. This same dog was only peaceful at 55+ mph so all of us who ever traveled with her perfected the high speed drive by toll toss (back in the days of cash tolls!)

First time D and SIL brought their new dog to visit us, they decided to leave him in a back bedroom when we all would be out for a few hours.

D and I came back first, to find the dog waiting at the back door for us. D was annoyed, sure that SIL hadn’t secured him properly. Till she turned down the hall–and saw the bottom foot or so of bedroom door–gone. He’d chewed his way through. I’ll never forget her “Oh, Noooo.”

Turns out he is scared of ceiling fans, and that room had an absurdly large one (since replaced). Ever since, we leave him loose in the house when we go out, and he is totally fine.

I left my “perfect” sleek, sweet black cat home while we went on a 10-day cruise. My sister was supposed to house-sit, but she said the house was too big and made scary noises, so she just checked on the cat every few days.

When we got home, we found that our cat had stressed-clawed my only true splurge-all 10 of my beautiful fabric dining chairs. Destroyed them.

I was more irritated at my sis than the cat, though. But our cat debunked the myth that cats don’t care if you come or go.

I catsit for my S and his GF’s cat a couple times a year. I wouldnt dream of not going every day, and I generally stay an hour or two at least so she gets some company. They tell me she is MUCH less stressed when they get home than with earlier, less attentive sitters. Totally agree that they care about company.

Having had beagles, nothing like this surprises me.

One of our beagles actually did chew up S’s homework. Unfortunately S had the one teacher I know who did not think that was funny…

Our current crazy boy has eaten all of the seats in DH’s Honda. The headrests, the seats, the backs of the seats. The only thing he hasn’t eaten is the driver’s seat, since it’s occupied by DH. He does this on the way to the park because he gets soooooooo excited. He hasn’t done it in my car because I put him in the back compartment (it’s an SUV) with a gate between that and the seats.

Aww, Elroy looks like a Good Boy! :slightly_smiling_face: Maybe someone let him watch Turner and Hooch and he was inspired.

You don’t want to hear what I’d do to a dog who ate $4K or destroyed anything. May he rest in peace.

My niece and NIL have two labs. As far as I know they’re pretty well-behaved. They are large tho, as labs DO run large.

No one even mentions the irony that the $4K was going to be used for a fence that (more than likely) was to keep the dog contained to the backyard!

He just didn’t want the fence is all.

I had a dog eat the seatbelts in the back seat in the way to obedience class.

My sister sent me this article yesterday after my dog ate the box to the puzzle I was doing. Luckily he didn’t eat any of the pieces!

So I can see that obedience class really paid off!

Adding: I too would probably chew through the seatbelts if someone tried to send me to obedience class.

I have to say, finding replacement seatbelts for vintage cars (like 1998 volvo) is like playing the lottery. I believe I bought the last new one for driver’s seat in NAmerica for H’s car—postage cost more than the part, by a lot!

lol.

Same dog that ate seat belts also ate a candle-making kit. Needless to say, the candles she made were wickless!
