good EC's to do

I am a freshman in highschool and have learned that at the top schools, you need both great academics and also character and EC’s. What are some good EC’s that I could do all 4 years that would look good on a college application. Thanks.

Don’t follow the herd. Strive to be an original thinker.

The ones you really care about.

Try a sport, maybe Track if you don’t play a specific one. Join leadership opportunities as well as clubs that give you insight in different things like Model UN or Student Government. Whatever you decide to do however, make sure you do it for 3 or 4 years! Colleges love consistency.

ECs can be out of school and involve your church or synagogue too. Many, many kids are involved at their affiliated youth group and can rise to regional or national leadership positions - it’s often much easier than trying to be Mr. Popular and becoming class president or treasurer.

Above all, make sure it’s something you care about - don’t just check the box.
