<p>I’ve been browsing this forum for a long time and have discovered that being an Asian, especially an Asian Indian Male, is a huge disadvantage when trying to gain admittance to a good/excellent engineering school.</p>
<p>Do you guys know of any good engineering schools where there is actually a lack or there is no overabudance of Asian students? I live in TX by the way.</p>

<p>try to get into a school for your intellect. it’ll mean a lot more later on than what race you are, and it’ll help you later in life more if you’re prepared to earn your way through things with your performance than expecting leniency because you’re colored differently than others around you. just my $0.02.</p>
<p>There were a lot of Indians at Purdue. They mostly stuck together.</p>
<p>Being Asian is not a huge disadvantage at top engineering schools. By law schools cannot use race as more than a minor factor in admission, and most public schools do not use it at all. You will not recieve the slight boost from being an URM, but you won’t have it any harder than the average non-URM applicants.</p>
<p>If you live in Texas you have UT-Austin and Texas A&M, both top 15 engineering schools, and you are garunteed admission if in the top 10%. If you are not in the top 10% it is not likely you would be accepted to top engineering schools anyway, rendering the point moot. (unless you have something else exceptional about you that would overcome low GPA and rank). There is also Rice.</p>
<p>^^^^ Texas A&M has a big “lack of Asian students” and is a great engineering school. Rice and UT have bigger asian populations respectively, and therefore they will probably not give you any upper hand on admissions, but they are still great options to look at for in-state engineering.</p>
