Good Engineering Schools in Northeast for Average Student

GPA: 3.45
ACT: 27

What are some good engineering schools that are reaches/matches/safeties for me based on my stats?

I’d suggest you google the list of engineering school ratings and find which one have your general stats. URI?

Would URI be a safety or a match?

It’s not the northeast, but how about Florida Institute of Technology, on the Space Coast of Florida.

^Sorry, I am not looking that far

You may want to consider your in-state publics like Rutgers, NJIT, TCNJ, and Rowan, since they are more likely to be reasonably priced than out-of-state publics, or less selective privates, with engineering.

However, some out-of-state publics with engineering do have low out-of-state list prices (but the better known ones are not in the northeast, other than perhaps Stony Brook).

Purdue University is a great school for engineering!

Check out Wentworth Institute of Technology! It’s in Boston and their average ACT is 21-26 so you’re on the high end. URI’s average ACT is 21-25, so it’s pretty close. URI just built a new biomedical engineering building, so if you want to do that it’s really nice.

Wentworth’s only ABET accredited engineering major is electromechanical engineering, though it also has computer science.

[Accredited Programs details](http://main.abet.org/aps/AccreditedProgramsDetails.aspx?OrganizationID=352)

Rhode Island has ABET accredited engineering degree programs in most of the usual branches (chemical, civil, computer, electrical, industrial, mechanical, ocean).

But don’t forget to consider cost of attendance. Both will likely be much more expensive than your in-state public universities.

You should look into NJIT and Rutgers, they will be in state, affordable and at the same level as RIU or the like.

What kind of engineering? Mechanical & Undecided at Alfred University (NY) are private programs.

These engineering programs are through NYS at Alfred University (NY):

Biomedical Materials Engineering Science
Ceramic Engineering
Glass Engineering Science
Materials Science and Engineering

Nice small classes-know your professors, Division III Athletics, merit aid, need-based aid, about 2,300 undergrads, no Greek Life, lots of clubs & organizations, housing all 4 years.
Established in 1836, still under $40,000/year, not a 50k plus private school, excellent value!

School of Engineering
College of Liberal Arts
School of Business
School of Art & Design

All students may have cars, shuttle buses to Rochester airport at peak break times, buses to NYC at peak break times, university-sponsored ride service (plenty of NJ kids to get a ride with to get back home for breaks, if you don’t own a car)

What is your home state?

How much will your parents pay? Your stats are in that gray area where they aren’t high enough for large merit scholarships or acceptance into the schools that “meet need.”

NJ

They can pay around 20-25k a year

Here’s a list of schools with engineering programs in the northeast where the 25 percentile for the ACT is no greater than 25.
