Good Engineering Schools

I have a list of 9 but most of them are rolling admissions so I am at a disadvantage now since I’m only applying mid Nov.

I would to hear some good non-rolling schools with good engineering programs. Preferably not institutes of technologies.

traits that I am looking for other than adcademics:
good social atmostphere (not cut-throat)
fairly affordable (below 35k is big +)

My stats are
SAT 1410 (m800 v610) took nov test
sAT II: 2c 800 1c 800 writing 750 bio 710
4.9/5.9 GPA (5.9 being best possible)
track (varsity/captain)
tennis (varsity)
math awards
spanish club
etc.

if you’re female, smith would be great. they offer some merit aid for engineers (but you lose the scholarship if you change your major…) and it’s definitely challenging but not cutthroat. there’s a lot of emphasis on teamwork.

Colorado School of Mines (www.mines.edu) is a great school for engineering. And the tution is pretty cheap (because it’s a state school).

vitamin1: many of the large midwestern state universities have fine engineering schools including Illinois, Michigan, Michigan State, Purdue, and Ohio State. Your stats are certainly good enough to get in. What state are you in?

purdue is a very good school, I take it you don’t want just engineering/hard science students because you say “no institues of technology” Am I right about that?

Depends on where you live…

out of state for all (international)

Michigan, Wisconsin, Florida, Virginia Tech, University of Miami, Boston University, Texas, and Perdue are great options for social life and engineering. Those are solid matches for you(if not safeties).

Lehigh not only has an excellent engineering school, but a social scene that “Playboy Magazine” has revered. ; )~

–Sarai–

Penn State, Bucknell (price iffy), Pitt

If below 35K is your financial requirement, your list can be quite large:

Cal-Berkeley
Carnegie Mellon
Cornell
Illinois Urbana-Champaign
Michigan-Ann Arbor
Northwestern
Purdue-West Lafayette
Stanford (why the hell not?!)
Texas-Austin
Wisconsin-Madison
