Good English Program?/Matches?

Hi, I’m currently a student at the Northern Virginia Community College (better known as NOVA to those around here) in Annandale; I’m trying to find a college that I can get into that has a well-regarded English program. Below are my stats and other useful information.

Gender: Male
Politics: Uber-liberal, although I tend to hide it sometimes
Likes: Open-minded people, intellectuals, fun people, down-to-earth people, literature and film clubs, anime, making music videos, sizeable and unique course listings, professors who care, students who care (pretty much anyone who cares. I don’t care who cares. Just as long as they care, it’s fine by me)
Dislikes: People who leech on or use others, religious fanatics (not religious people per se…just those who blindly refute other points of view and criticize others for not following their ways of living), small dorms, lack of respect from campus administration, lack of diversity in college food offering

HS gpa: 3.5 weighted, 3.4 unweighted
6 honors and 6/7 APs (U.S. and Comparative Gov’t were combined into a 1-year course.) My AP credit seems to range from 3-12 units, depending on the college)
Old SAT: 1250. I will probably take the new one. My goal is 1950-2100.
SAT Subjects: U.S. History- 730, Writing- 640. I also may take at some point a Spanish language subject test.

Current college gpa: 2.13. There aren’t really any excuses for my GPA, but I can say that most of it is due to the second semester of my freshman year, wherein I went through a mental hell that lasted almost a year. I attended the University of Mary Washington for 2.5 semesters, and I began attending NOVA this winter.

My goal is to have a 3.2 by the end of summer, and by the end of fall, a 3.4 or above. At that time, I’ll have an Associates Degree in liberal arts from NOVA and would transfer.

So, with that, what are some colleges matches that have good English programs? If possible, I’d like to go somewhere in the mid-Atlantic, but I am willing to settle elsewhere if need be. I don’t really care about the size of the student body or the location of the school as long as the internal dynamics of the school are nice. I’m very open, whatever the case. Also-- a secondary concern-- if the school has a well-received poli sci, philosophy, or psychology program, that would be even better. A fairly even male:female ratio would be cool too. I’ve just been looking everywhere and can’t seem to find a match, so any help would be appreciated.
