Good gifts to give teachers?

Its National Teacher Appreciation Week and I’d like to give a few of my teachers a gift of some kind to thank them for being so nice to me over the past year. I don’t want anything too expensive, so around 5 dollars a gift or so. Any ideas as to what to get they’d like?

That’s nice of you! I am a teacher and I love getting gift cards to coffee shops. A plant would be nice, too. Believe me, your teachers will be thrilled and touched by anything that you do.

You are sweet to think of your teachers. Here are some thoughts from a former teacher…

Please, no more mugs. While the A+ teacher mugs are cute, 1 is enough ;-)

No fattening goodies. Have you seen the inside of the staff lounge? Boxes of donuts multiply there and then leap onto the hips of unsuspecting teachers. Seriously.

A personal note from you will mean more than anything you can buy.

If you still want to buy something, I like the idea of gift cards to local coffee place or bookstore. Or Amazon. We buy lots of stuff for our classrooms, so even Staples/Office Max

Write us a letter next year, from wherever you are to let us know how you are…we like to think that our teaching has helped prepare you for life.

Nothing with apples on it. Gift cards are perfect.

Daughter insisted she had to get her U.S. History teacher the finger puppet of Frederick Douglass that we saw when we were touring colleges.

CCsiteobsessed…
GREAT! It sounds like something a fun history teacher would love…and not have duplicates of already!

How about a box of notepaper, plus the first note card used by you for Thank You. Then the teacher will feel good each time the cards are used.

Thanks for the input, it’s been helpful

A letter of appreciation with a cc to the principal (especially if the teacher doesn’t have tenure.) That’s number one. If you want something more present-y that should be in addition. I think gift cards to bookstores are a good way to go. I’ve given blank notecards with a drawing of the school done by me. I figured they could be used by the teachers for thank-you notes. If you can’t draw you could use a photograph.

A movie pass is always appreciated.

This website has lots of good options (stickers, magnets, etc.) especially if you are in the sciences or English. The designs are educational, but funny- and not a single apple or “I love teaching” to be found!
