Good Grades and plays sports

My dtr has GPA of 4.25 and 1260 SAT and plays volleyball. To get into a school like Muhlenberg, or University of Scranton, does she have good chance of getting a pretty good amount of money? I am just learning about all of this

Don’t know if Scranton or Muhlenburg athletics are Div. 1, 2, or 3. Div 1 and 2 give scholarships but not Div. 3. Div. 3 schools will sometimes put together preferential packaging for a sought after athlete but it is not, and cannot be termed, a “scholarship”. Even the kids playing at Div. 3 colleges it seems have been award winning multiple year HS starters… often team captains. Is that a weighted GPA? How many AP courses has she taken? The “rigor” of the curriculum is very important. For merit money you need sustained superior performance in a rigorous curriculum probably the toughest one available the HS has to offer. what are your D’s SAT and ACT scores? If weighted the GPA is good. Check the criteria on the college web sites for merit scholarships. Some give merit money based on SAT scores ie., a 1300 math/verbal might garner you $5000. Check if those schools met 100% of financial NEED, many do not.

no her GPA is not weighted yet my dtr said it should be higher because of ap classes and stuff. She takes accelerated courses, and honors. Muhlenberg is a Div III school.

Here’s a tip: If she really likes Muhlenberg and you’re able to afford it, apply early. I applied ED along with the rest of my schools and received a letter from them that basically said, “Sorry, we ran out of money because we gave it all to our Early Decision applicants!” A friend of mine applied early and got a generous amount of money.

it doesnt say, but i assume she is good enough to play in college?

D3 schools do not offer atheletic scholarships. However, many do give pretty generous merit scholarships. Usually each college has a section on their website that shows and explains their scholarship dollars available. Start there.

D1 & D2 and I believe NAIA schools can give sports scholarships. How much depends on the school.
