Hi,
I will be taking the 2 month powerscore LSAT course starting in april and then taking the lsat in june. It appears that powerscore recommends not studying at all for the lsat proir to taking their course in order to allow you to undertake their preparation method without prior suggestions to muck things up.

I have a little over a month now before the course starts. Would it be smart to start studying now or does their advice actually have merit? Thanks

I took the September 2007 LSAT without taking any courses, but I did use PowerScore materials for my preparation and also taught some LSAT weekend courses this past summer for them, so hopefully I can shed some light.

In my opinion, you should take PowerScore’s advice and avoid studying leading up to the course. The course is comprehensive and will teach you virtually everything you need to know to succeed on the test. This obviously doesn’t mean you can expect to just take the course, take the test, and then presto, get a great score. A strong performance will also require extra study on your own time during and after the course, including the completion of the homework and practice tests PowerScore gives you.

On the other hand, preparing beforehand can be counterproductive for two reasons. First, if you use any methodology aside from PowerScore’s, then you may start to internalize certain terms and techniques and don’t quite mesh with PowerScore’s, which could lead to trouble down the line. Second, even if you do use PowerScore’s materials, it’s better to start learning the basics under the guidance of a professional so that you not only study the right things, but also study them efficiently and correctly.

My daughter wants to take virtual classes this summer to prepare for the LSAT. I thought we were set with Kaplan until I read all the negative threads. I’ll trust Power Score is as great as everyone says. Should I get her the Power Score Study Bible as well? Also, if ANYONE HAS ANYTHING along the lines of study sheets ect. PLEASE PM me and I’ll give you my e-mail. I’m so grateful I ran across this site.
