Good laptop for music production? (No Mac)

I’m going to George Washington University this fall and I’m probably going to major in economics and get into law. However, I often play electric guitar. What’s a good laptop that’s good for music production as well as school?

It’s gotta have the following:

 • Fast, reliable, and durable
 • good memory
 • Not heavy, but it doesnt have to be very light either
 • have a high resolution webcam
 • have light up keys
 • made by an American company (But can be assembled overseas)
 • I have to be able to plug my electric guitar into it and play without a delay after every note
 • good quality sound

The budget is $800 but it can be a little more expensive than that

Wait for hp to update their envy 14" to the newest intel sandy bridge processors and it will have everything your looking for, but its going to be higher than 800

This one has everything your looking for except the backlit keyboard
beats audio is the best quality audio in any laptop i’ve seen
price $750

For the guitar.

Run your guitar through your amp and then have the output cable lead into an adapter for the mic jack on any computer. Skip any kind of digital amplification simulation as they always sound terrible (Line 6 anybody?). You don’t need a specialized computer for this.

As for a tip on a computer:

Acer makes some pretty good stuff that has good specs, warranty and is good value.
I would stay away from HP as they have terrible reliability and the warranty sucks.

Asus is my other suggestion.
