I just want to sincerely wish all the UC applicants good luck in getting into the school of their choice. Has anyone else been worrying about it already–even though it hasn’t even been four weeks since applying?

Yeah I am worrying. I think UCs (exluding UCB and UCLA) overhype the competition for transfer. But that’s just my opinion.

Yeah–I have noticed that–Santa Barbara for instance.

i am more worried about my final grades b/c these are the things that i can control somewhat. don’t worry about things that can’t control.

Before I came to this forum, I would spend a good portion of my day calculating and evaluating my chances to transfer in my head while waiting anxiously for a response from some slow-responding UC counselor.

I am worried about my Fall grades. Yikes. I think it could make me or break me. Ugh, what to do? I really think I am borderline here with my expected GPA + essays. I do not know what to think at this moment. I am just going to pray that my dream comes true.

What’s your stats and where are you hoping to get into?

Let me see if I can answer for her! UCLA–poli sci–and her gpa is like a 3.5 (she should realize she has a really good chance).

Guys don’t start worrying yet, there will be pleanty of time in March/April for that. 3.5 for Poli Sci here is a little below average I believe, but still a very strong. I’m a History major, so I know more about that one, I’m working on a minor in Poli Sci, but not sure of the department requirments for much more then that.

gabe, u’re way off b/c it’s a he lol.

Sorry, he she, whatever. Allena, the average GPA of admits into poli sci was 3.54 for Fall 2005.

Really 3.54? I always thought it was a bit higher. Hey you live you learn!

For Fall 2004 it was 3.61. It’s obvious that someone with a 3.5 is in the ballpark.

Yeah like I said I was (still am) a History major. I know that department much better.

I have a 3.7. And like highschoolda said, I am a he. haha.

Haaa wow. You seriously need to stop complaning dude; it’s (1) illogical and (2) plain mean (for those who really are in dire straits). And is that before or after this semester?

ah…the waiting period. hahah reading this thread brings back so many memories of those days I’d get butterflies in my stomach just thinking of april 29, when i get to open up that letter from berkeley…and then the last week before arrival…talk about nervous!! hahah

congrats you all!

You also suck then Cal_girl since you had a 4.0–real scary! hah.

just kidding

haha but i knew people with 4.0’s and qualified who got rejected. nothing is definite when applying to schools–never know what the committee is thinking, and it’s beyond your control. what major are you

The only thing that is unknown is the applicant pool. What they look at is clear–all of that is elucidated in the guides they have available. So the only thing to have butterflies about is the chance that somehow a huge amount of super qualified students applied.

Obviously if someone had a 4.0 but got rejected, they weren’t qualified. There are no ghosts in the process. And a 4.0 for either UCLA or Berkeley is always going to be at the top of the applicant pool–so if the 4.0 student really is qualified (completed IGETC, 60 credits, major prereqs, etc.) they WILL get in. I haven’t seen one case where a person who was actually qualified was rejected; that’s not the nature of admissions. (And a 4.0 student with only a few extra-curriculars need not be worried considering academic factors make up the first tier within comprehensive review.)

I’m a philosophy major.
