Here are my college choices:
Reach: Yale
“Easier” Reach: Rice/Vandy
“Safety”?: University of Florida
If I have to, I will apply to like UCF for real safety.

Here is my profile:

1 in class of about 400 (medium sized Catholic in SoFla)

4.8 GPA (only a junior) 3.99 unweighted
9 AP’s
4 years of football
1 year of wrestling
Pre Med Club
150+ community service hrs
President’s Award last 3 years
A few leadership camps, summits, etc.
Hispanic Minority (1st generation American)
SAT: 1400
ACT: 29

Any comments on college choices and other “matches” would be appreciated.

UCF isn’t that bad, if you live in Fl. If it’s the state college he likes best after UF, he’s not forbidden from applying just because he’s overqualified.

Normally, I would say UF would be a fine safety, as long as you applied RD1…but next year it’s all one deadline, and I don’t know exactly how that will impact admissions. You are obviously far more than qualified for UF, though, and I seriously doubt you would need another safety, especially if you find a few really solid matches.

Thanks guys. UCF is the school in Florida that is decent, but lets most people in with average scores and grades. I really would not want to go, but UF is getting harder and harder every year, and UCF is much better than going to CC.

Wake Forest, Emory, Notre Dame, Tufts, Boston College, NYU, Georgia Tech, USC, George Washington, they’re all matches for you some are safe matches

I did take the new SAT’s (everyone has to). I got a 689 in math, 630 in verbal, and 600 in writing. The reason I only listed the 1600 score is because many schools don’t even take the writing section into consideration (UF). However, I do plan on retaking the SAT’s in June and have been scoring consistently in the low 1400’s at the class I’m taking.
