Wal-Mart announced it would end sales of ammunition for handguns and assault weapons and end open carry in stores in states where that is legal.
The memo from Walmart’s CEO is shown in this article:

This part of the memo lists the specific items that will be discontinued:
I would think they would lose a lot of business over this, though it might be a wash when you factor in those on the other side. At least it doesn’t include concealed carry, though I rarely go in Wal-Mart these days.
I think they will gain a lot of business too.
Dicks had positive sales.
@thumper1
I guess I’m just judging based on what I personally see, lots of people I know stopped shopping at Dick’s and the ones in my area still seem like they have less business. Of course, I can’t think of a single person I know irl or even on facebook that would support something like this.
^^^ @HeartofDixie , what aspect would your IRL people not support?
Well…dicks quarterly profits were up.
The current CEO of Walmart also is the one that stopped selling confederate flags and has lobbied the Fed govt to increase the min wage.
Walmart’s stock is up today while the market is down overall.
I never used to shop at Walmart, but I’ve definitely reconsidered based on their recent actions.
Well, I don’t buy my ammo at Walmart, but it does nothing to solve the mental health or societal issues driving gun violence. Empty signal IMO.
There are many things on the checklist to attend to in order to solve gun violence. I for one, will be happy to check any one of those dozens of things off the list.
Yes ^
This is unambiguously good news for communities where Walmart is located.
I think it is a great signal. Shame that the govt is so gutless. (all of them, now and gone)
I want a giant thumbs up to agree with @abasket’s comment above. Walmart’s actions will influence their communities if only in small increments.
I live in the Heart of Dixie (almost) and never shop at Walmart. This, however, will make me reconsider. Thumbs up to Walmart.
Kroger has followed up, by requesting no open carry in any of its stores and supporting common sense gun reform.
Statistics/surveys show that the majority of Americans favor stricter gun legislation. It’s not only the correct thing to do, it is the astute thing to do from a business and optics perspective - and probably the lawyers and risk management departments are happy, too!
