Food service is changing from amarak (which is to put it mildly not great)

to BON APETIT which is fresh ingredients and great food. My D is a sophomore and the food (especially MOCON) is not good. This is great news for Wes BON APETIT is used by Northwestern U and is supposedly
wonderful. Along with the new dining hall in the new student center next
year should be great!!

They’re on the streets around places where parties happen on campus.
The stands are those portable vans with food like you have in NYC and Philly.
They’re pretty good from what I’ve heard, I think I’ve maybe eaten from them once.

Brief story: When I was a freshman back in '03 there was a restaurant on Main St. called Mamoun’s Falafel. There were three branches of it: NYC, New Haven, and Middletown. It was amazing, like $4 for a very generous helping of Lamb Steak Wrap and like $3 for the falafel version, plus other great Middle Eastern food. Unfortunately the Middletown branch closed (the New Haven one is still open, it’s on Howe St. if you’re ever down there).

I guess student outry over the loss of Mamoun’s was enough that they decided to break out the portable Mamoun’s cart and haul up to Middletown every night, even in the dead of winter. They’re the ones parked on Pine St. next to the science tower…

This isn’t that great news. I think Mocon food is okay, there are a lot of healthy options already: salad bar, deli, cereals, yogurts, tons of vegan options etc.

And also it is all-you can-eat. At least I can eat till I’m full.

I’ve heard the new dining hall won’t offer that, which is not good news. It sounds like Summerfields, where the food might taste good, but they give you such tiny portions that you’re always hungry and end up buying overpriced food at Weshop just to keep from starving. That’s why I never eat at Summerfields, and I know a lot of my friends won’t eat there either, even if they live in the Butts, because they are still hungry after.

Also, if they change food providers they will also probably change the service people at Mocon, who I think are great and friendly. I would hate to see Dave the grill guy or Grandma(the woman at the register) go, they’re the nicest people in the world.

actually one of the stipulations with the Bon Appetit contract was keeping the same number of employees. so while they may not have the same exact jobs (but why not?), everyone should be staying. in regards to wraider2006’s comment, actually the second floor of the new campus center will be all-you-can-eat! the first floor will be a la carte… so don’t worry, mocon-esque food quantities will continue!

By the way, Mocon is going to be shut down and eventually demolished. Sentimental though we may be about it, it’s basically the least energy-efficient building on the campus.
