Good news thread: No disasters, natural or man made, allowed

My 43 year old cousin (an almost newlywed) is 28 weeks pregnant. It happened without medical intervention after IVF failed. The amnio and unltrasounds all look good. She feels great. We are all so excited for her and her wonderful (quite a bit younger) husband.

Despite Jon Stewart’s ribbing every night last week, Tampa handled the RNC beautifully. Big kudos to our excellent police chief, Jane Castor: [Castor's calm set the tone | TBO.com](http://www2.tbo.com/news/breaking-news/2012/aug/31/namaino3-castors-calm-set-the-tone-ar-479199/)

momof2kids, congrats! My boss has a similar story except that they tried and failed IVF and many other methods. They then told her that the baby could have Downs, etc. The baby girl is a happy 6 month old now :). Good luck to your cousin!!

My good news: my mom had her nth surgery (6th? 7th?) in three years on her eyes last Friday and they finally think this one might be the last one. Her body is healing very well for the first time and we’re all very excited. We were also very fortunate that the doctors managed to bump up the surgery by a week since we lost our insurance the following day.

Last year at the preschool where I work, we didn’t have enough kids to fill the classes five days a week. I only worked three days a week which made for a skinnier paycheck.

This year we had lots of kids sign up. I started back to work today with a 5 day schedule. I’ll miss those lazy days off but will be happy on payday.
