I saw a former resident from my shelter the other day at my other job (I guess it was a few weeks ago now… yikes!). She was one of the first people I admitted when I first started working at the shelter. She’s been away from her assailant since and is in a new relationship with a GOOD guy who is helping to raise her daughter. It’s the first time I’ve ever seen a legitimate success story outside of the shelter itself. It was awesome beyond words.

Successfully corrected a serious overheating issue with a Lenovo notebook I got free from a client. Very vexing case design…but managed to get to the CPU Fan assembly and found a huge hidden dust bunny strip. Eliminated dust bunny, reassembled notebook, and notebook is now running like a champ.

Enjoyed a nice dinner of spicy curry chicken with potatoes and carrots with plenty of sauce over rice. :)

An actual tiny filler article from The Washington Post on June 10th:

Dog Was Just Born To Look Depressed

Silver Spring. A person called animal control to report a possibly neglected dog. The caller said that the dog was never seen being walked and that seen through the window it looked depressed. An Animal Services officer met with the dog’s owner, and checked out the hound-type mixed-breed, which appeared fine, and determined that the dog was exercised regularly and did not appear to be depressed.

Loved this simple filler. Someone cared enough about a dog to call. Animal services checked it out. The dog is fine. And whoever wrote the “headline” had a great sense of humor.

Last night, for the first time in 2 months, IT RAINED! And the high today was only in the 90s!
Had the AC repaired last weekend–it is WORKING GREAT.

We had a wonderful thunderstorm this afternoon. Two hours later, my two year old grandson and I laid down on the lawn and watched a flock of swallows and a swarm of dragonflies do a ballet in the air above us for half an hour. Incredibly glorious.

My son’s friend invited his 83 year old granny to come for a visit across the country for 5 days. He paid for the ticket, met her at the airport, cooked with her, played board games, drove her to see the ocean for the first time in 20 years, and took photos. All of the other family members thought she was “too old” to travel. She was packed and ready to go 1 week before her departure date. She left with a big smile on her face. We all need someone in our lives like that!

Try this - hold the nozzle of the vacuum cleaner up to the vents for the fan. On my Lenovo they’re in the NorthWest corner (both edges) of the laptop. That might solve the problem without having to take it apart.

If that doesn’t work then it’s easy enough to remove the easily accessible screws with a little keyboard embossed next to them and then remove the palm rest and keyboard and then stick the vacuum nozzle over the top of the fan to clear it out.

windbehindwings:
That’s a great story. What a nice thing for him to do.

My son and his friend left a car that the friend may have been too tipsy to drive and walked home. Good decision! It might have felt risky too, because the friend is a girl, and he brought her home to his grandmother’s house, so tomorrow he will have to explain her presence, which could be uncomfortable.

In the past two weeks I’ve gotten a free dessert at a restaurant for no reason (ordered it and was told later it was on the house) and had a minor accident in a parking lot (my fault) where the guy looked at the damage and told me not to worry about it. I also rode the train to San Diego recently for free because it was so busy (Comic Con) that the conductor never processed my card. Maybe I need to buy a lottery ticket!

Ghostfire, your story reminded me of this: last month S1 scratched the fender of another car in the tight spaces of a parking garage. He left his name and phone number. The car owner called and thanked him for leaving his info, since nobody ever does that around here (DC), and told him not to worry about the scratch.

“I’d like to hear some good news for a change. No venting, no snark, no bragging, no arguments, no nitpicking… Just some good news to celebrate.”

The Bragging Thread:

“Want to brag? What have you done in your life that is worth bragging about? Highest SAT scores in your class? Class president? Homecoming Queen? Biggest Scholarship? Highest GPA? Best salary? Anything goes… I’ll start… My son got a perfect score on auditions for…”

A local family who were involved in a tragic auto accident when vacationing, had the loss of one of their young sons compounded by having the family dog run off.

Happily, they were recently reunited with their dog with the help of new online friends.
