Good North American geotechnical grad schools

I am interested in doing a PhD in geotechnical engineering, with a focus related to mining, either in Canada or the US. Hopefully after that I could work in the oil sands of Alberta, or somewhere in Colorado or Texas, but it doesn’t really matter. I’ve done a little research, and it seems the University of Toronto has a really nice program combining civil with minerals. But in the US, it seems few schools do the civil with mining combo, I’ve only heard of the Colorado School of Mines in this regard. Are there any schools you would recommend?

Oh, and I’m currently on an MEng course in civil engineering in the UK. Thanks for your advice!
