As a 17-year-old African high school junior and University of the People cs undergrad, my goal is to enroll in an Ivy League university by the conclusion of my senior year, ideally MIT. I have a partial scholarship and am already more than quarter way through my university education, but as time passed I become insecure and not sure if my choice to enroll at a low-status college at this age was a wise one or one that would damage my reputation at that particular ivy university. I understand that you might think I’m a crazy adolescent since, at my age, I should have been AP classes, international fairs, research competitions, or Olympiads. For this I had prepared myself in the past by doing extensive academic research, sharpening my academic skill as well as technical skill. Yet after all of these works, though, as 99.9% of these opportunities demand US citizenship, come with hefty costs, or—most bothersome of all—recognize most but not my country. Having no other choice, I blindfolded landed myself into the world of college. In conclusion what should i do ? should i keep my journey if so would my attendance in UOPeople increase my acceptance rate or quit and accelerate soley in my high school score(I have already maintained 4.0 throughout my current and past high school year) and national Matric Exam ?
MIT is not an Ivy League college.
I don’t understand your situation and will let others comment beyond that.
- How old are you?
- Have you completed all of high school?
- Is there any reason why you can’t complete your bachelors degree where you are?
- MIT is a highly competitive university…and even more so for international students. If you are transferring from another college…even more competitive.
- Please share your academic record from high school and this college.
- You say you have a scholarship…would this scholarship continue at a different college?
- I’m very confused by your story. Please clarify what you are studying and whether this is high school or college credit you are earning.
And MIT is not an Ivy League college.
What exactly are you interested in studying here and why here?
17 year old HS junior taking college courses as indicated in the OP.
And for the OP, colleges courses taken in HS count as college preparation: those credits won’t transfer to Ivy/MIT, so you won’t be a quarter way through your university education
Sorry for the confusion my age is as already stated 17. I am currently 12th grade-to-be student just after this summer and for my university I have past quarter way at this very specific time as undergrad cs student. To elaborate am running both HS and uni in parallel at the same time. Your next question would be how did u get to uni without HS Diploma ? the answer is some uni provide another way for those who can’t provide HS Diploma, where u would take ATB instead. My concern again is do I get advantage for getting into uni as extracurricular for my upcoming ivy or MIT application or is It fruitless effort ?
Sorry for the confusion. Quarter way wasn’t referring to the future ivy or MIT univ it is referring to the current univ I am admitting on (UOPeople). And for my intention, Credit transfer isn’t my intention but getting accepted is.
MIT has a single digit acceptance rate. Really no one has an “advantage “ when applying there.
Getting into uni, or taking course at uni, isn’t an extracurricular. Extracurricular by definition is not credit-bearing academic coursework. Challenging yourself with academics is necessary and expected. Most applicants are able to do so within the framework of their secondary school, but many find it necessary to do college coursework due to lack of appropriate coursework in their high school
2% acceptance for international applicants, to be specific.
International acceptance to a top US university is a guarantee for nobody, which is why applicants are well served to look for additional options in their region and/or US universities with higher acceptance rates.
Africa is a big place. Which country? You say national matric exam (South Africa?) so sounds like you are not at an international school with an international diploma like Cambridge - have you checked admission requirements for US colleges for the country you are coming from?
