Good People In The World

Do you think that the world is full or lacking of good people?

In other words, how many people do you know who are not backstabbing, two-faced, or hypocritical?

Do you think that there is a lot of or very little altruism in the world?

Feel free to share any personal stories.

When I see people give up their time to volunteer for organizations like Special Olympics…Or since this is a college website…10,000 degrees… [Welcome | 10,000 Degrees](http://www.10000degrees.org/)

It makes me feel good. There are some very good people doing great things.

There are millions and millions of good people. Their stories, their large and small acts of compassion and kindness just never make the local or national news.

Most of the news is bad news because it gets attention and attention sells products. There’s also lots of good news that doesn’t get a lot of attention.

I’n an optimist. I think there are many more good people than those who are truly evil.

I believe no one person is all good or all bad.

I believe no one person is all good or all bad.

Well…some people might put that to the test.

[Bundy’s lawyer: He killed over 100 women – and a man - KCPQ](http://www.q13fox.com/news/politics/CRsTake/kcpq-bundys-lawyer-he-killed-over-100-women--and-a-man-20120523,0,4185214.story)
Bundy stalked women in the Puget Sound area when & where I grew up.
Scary.

However, some may also remember that Ann Rule, a policewoman turned author worked alongside Bundy @ Seattles suicide hotline.
[Ann Rule: Revealing the Strangers Beside Us](http://www.trutv.com/library/crime/serial_killers/notorious/ann_rule/1.html)

No word on how effective Bundy was.

I agree that most people are good, most of the time. But read a few of Ann Rule’s books, and you will agree that some people seem to have the capacity for real evil.

I agree w/ek. There are some who truly are evil. But there are some good people who sometimes do not-nice things, but they’re not “bad.”

I think most people try to be good.

I assume all people are good until they prove otherwise. I have been proven wrong numerous times (such as with the ex-president of the league I now help run who stole well over $100k from a struggling youth organization and the men who cause the women to hide in the DV shelter where I work). However, I am proven right far more times than not. I believe the vast majority of people are fundamentally good but the ones that stick in our brain are the ones who hurt us or other people.

The examples of the OP- backstabbing, two-faced or hypocritical, I don’t think are evil, but are character flaws in people with self esteem issues/lack social skills.

I can’t say I run into anyone on a regular basis that exhibit those “qualities”.

Altruistic? Wow, I wish that descriptor had been left out. Altruism … you mean like the person who donated both kidneys so that two fellow human beings could live? That kind of selfless concern for others?

I think the world is full of good people until I drive on I 95. Then I think the world is populated by idiots. Just got home.

^^lol…

I just stay in the first or second lane and watch most people fly by. I also avoid driving when there’s any traffic. It’s not always completely possible but I can make it from the NH border (Nashua) to Boston in about 50 minutes driving at the speed limit without traffic. Worst case in bad traffic is over two hours.
