I’m going to Asheville in August for a couple days with my family… We would like to avoid fast food places while we’re there which leads me to ask - anybody know any good places to eat?

Any advice is much appreciated! Thanks! And yes, we’re stopping to see the Biltmore. LOL.

I second Mellow Mushroom. It’s great pizza. If the weather is nice, eat outside. It’s fun to watch the eclectic mix of people strolling by on the sidewalks.

I don’t reccomend the laughing seed - we had a bad experience there. I haven’t eaten at the Mellow Mushroom there but I have eaten at the one in Winston-Salem and it is delish.

Lunch on the terrace of the Grove Park Inn. It’s pricey but very special. Great view and food. Tour the Inn and visit the craft store below.
Go online and check out outdoor concerts downtown at night. The summer atmosphere downtown is festive. Walking city tours are a highlight. I love a local bookstore called “Mollanprops”, (you may need to excuse the spelling). If you have time jump on the Blue Ridge Parkway, grab you bathing suit and visit a waterfall.

how m uch of a foodie are you or your family? we were in asheville in May and ate really well …a great experience was the Admiral…hard to get into…a converted gas station into a dive bar/foodie paradise.Amazing chef. We ate breakfast at the Sunny Pointe Cafe…excellent…and had a great tapas dinner another night.Biltmore was interesting to tour…rent the headphone audio tour…its worth the cost and following the written guide, make sure to listen to the “extras” about the rooms. My favorite part was the dining room and the servants quarters “below stairs”.Beautiful grounds too.We stayed at the Inn on the Estate but didnt eat there,we like more local oriented places.

Hubby and I are heading to Asheville in September for the Brewgrass Festival, so I’m glad to see this thread. In addition to looking for good places to eat, I thought we might take a scenic railway trip. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Just came back two days ago. Don’t miss breakfast downtown at Tupelo Honey Cafe, Lunch on the Terrace at Grove Park inn then walk down through the hotel to the amazing gallery store on the premises that has local artisans’ work for sale. If you like Indian food we had a very good meal in a restaurant in the Haywood Park Hotel. Also check out shops in the Grove Park Arcade and there’s a terrific used bookstore around the corner from there if you happen to be into that sort of thing.

I forgot about Table, we ate there our first night in town.It was wonderful but faded in my memory compared to the outrageous Admiral experience!

My family lives for India Garden - [India Garden Restaurant :: soup, salad, clay oven specialties, chicken, lamb , seafood , vegetarian , combination dinner.](http://www.indiagardenonline.com/) - we think it is the best Indian food outside of India!

Also, for places to stay, the Grove Park Inn is the best, and there are plenty of bed and breakfast places in my neighborhood (Montford) within walking distance of downtown.

We ended up eating at Asheville Brewing Co. (pizza - SO good), Early Girl Eatery (pancakes/omelets - delicious), and Doc Chey’s (YUM). We also hit up the fancy Biltmore McDonalds (not actually in the Biltmore but in front of the entrance - it was very spiffy) for ice cream. It was HOT up there.

The Biltmore House itself was obviously gorgeous, but oh man was it toasty. We hadn’t even thought about it not having AC! Of course not! Duh. Thank god I wore a dress!

A big thanks and high five to everybody for the suggestions! ; )

Jack of the Wood on Patton Ave has okay food but we went there because it has music nightly. Nite we were they there was a bluegrass jam session all nite.
