Good premed schools

I’m a Junior in high school and prospective premed and I need some help choosing schools. I have 36 ACT, likely national merit semifinalist, 3.85 UW GPA (3 B’s in freshman year, straight A’s since), captain of debate club, maybe captain of varsity tennis, math team member, doing science research and entering into state fairs and ISEF, give free math tutoring to middle schoolers on weekends. Which target and reach schools would be a good fit for me? Also, would it be wise to major in Philosophy as opposed to Biology/Biochemistry for premed? Thanks!

Literally any one of hundreds and hundreds of colleges and majors could work for pre-med.

–First focus on what is affordable (especially since grad school is planned).

–Second focus on what type of college you would like and feel you can thrive at. Some considerations include (but not limited to): college size (LAC, mid-size, large), geographic location, urban/suburban/rural, interest in Greek Life, interest in big time sports, religious or secular.

–And any major is fine as long as you complete all of the pre-med requirements. It is important to maintain a high GPA so find a major where can can excel academically.

Hard to say since you didn’t indicate whether you want a large urban public or a rural LAC, lecture classes or seminars, the kinds of activities you enjoy, the kind of friends you are looking for (preppy, outdoorsy, intellectual, etc), just to name a few things that go into fit.

Honestly fine with any setting although I’d prefer smaller classes. I’d probably be looking to research and debate in college and I guess I’d want smart friends.

None of these are deal breakers aside from accessible research because I have no life.

Did you speak with your parents about a budget?

You can major in anything you want and take the prerequisites for med school, and this includes philosophy. That being said, biology or biochemistry might lead to more opportunities in the event you do not get accepted to medical school, take time off etc.

Every college has smart kids.

Exactly. I’m quite sure you will encounter plenty of smart kids in those premed required courses…you know…things like Ochem…
