good reason to quit?

my boss would only put me in schedule once a week, but keeps calling me to work the rest of the week because she gave more hours to people who do not like working. I think it is unfair that they keep giving me short notice to work, and I felt that my coworkers are taking advantage of me by asking me to work when they just don’t feel like it. I know I get paid, but I feel that I should not allow them to treat me this way.

Is this a good reason to quit?

Try to find something to replace that job first. If you quit then u’ll have 0 money. That’s worst.

First, mention it to your boss. Say that you don’t think it’s fair that people who aren’t taking the job seriously are getting more hours than you, when you do not constantly call out like they do. Judge your boss’s response. If it’s that you will be given more hours, then keep the job. If it’s “deal with it”, then look for another job - ONLY quit if you find another job.

I agree with Kelliebm.
Not a good reason to quit at all. It took me several months to find a PT job. I know it’s not cool that they tell you last minute, however, you mention it to your boss so that he/she will consider giving you more hours in the future.

You’re only treated the way you allow yourself to be treated. Sometimes the employee has to put their foot down to the boss. Tell him/her that you can work the days you’re scheduled, but any other additional days need to be brought to your attention at least x days in advanced and there should be an understanding that you don’t have an obligation to do those days.
You agreed to work the days scheduled and only the days scheduled; for all s/he knows, your days off could be devoted to something else already.

However, if you want to quit – I suspect there might be other reasons with your work you’re unhappy with?

PlattsburghLoser, It is not the job, per se, it is not really too bad. I feel insulted everytime I see in my schedule that I only work once a week, although I will probably work more. I take it personally, it means that they see me as a poor performing employee. Although that might change now, this is the fourth time this week, that they ask me to work, and I refuse, and I have heard that one of them got a no call no show. Last night, my boss called saying that one of coworker is sick again, I told her nicely that I really can’t work tomorrow because I have an engagement with a friend. So, she ask me what days I am free. I hope she finally wakes up and that she intends to put me in schedule more.

They won’t put you on the schedule more unless you ask to be put on the schedule more, and if they keep putting people who no-show on instead of you that means they’re trying to get you to quit.
