Hi everyone,
I have been accepted into Emmanuel College and Assumption College, both in Massachusetts. Emmanuel College is $52,499 and offer me in 17K renewable for four years for a total of $68K and this does not include financial aid. Assumption offered me 18k renewable for four years for a title of $72k and their total cost of attendance is $49,992. I am the first person to go into college in my family and I would really appreciate any feedback you could give me. Thank you:)
Are you from MA? What can your family afford? Did you run the Net Price Calculator on each school’s web site to get an idea of what your total costs might be?
Yes, what were the net prices generated from the colleges’ net price calculators?
What kind of aid do they show?
Some will be more generous with offering aid than others.
Since the amount of books, supplies will be somewhat similar and travel costs as well, since they are both in MA, you might want to focus on the direct billed costs such as tuition, fees, room, board (if living on campus), rather than COA.
Then compare them side by side by cost minus aid
Emmanuel Assumption
Tuition
Fees
Room
Board
Total
-$17,000 scholarship -$18,000 scholarship
-$ grant -$ grant
Yes I did run the Net price calculator generate and my family is able to afford it and I am from NY.
Okay I will line them up side by side, thank you for your input!

https://www.assumption.edu/finance/tuition-and-fees
Looking at some tuition, fees, room, board info for both schools, looks like Emmanuel comes in at about $51,550 for 2016/17 tuition, fees (only ones listed are student activity fee and orientation fee), room, board (double room), and Assumption comes in at about $48,564 for tuition, fees ($750), room (most expensive at $8,000), board ($4304).
So if grants are not more at Emmanuel it seems Assumption might be more affordable with the extr $1,000 in scholarship.
But also look at upperclassmen housing costs, and total fees (Assumption has a long list of fees), health ins required ir not, etc.

Just to be clear…if the NPC is showing grants, but not the merit awards, then likely you will NOT get both.
Okay thank you for that piece of information!
