My S, a junior, is starting to think that he might like to major in exercise science. I had never heard of this major and have just started researching schools that this major. He would like to stay in the northeast.
S was previously interested in LAC’s with an interest in English/creative writing, so this new interest has shaken up my carefully researched school list, LOL.
My boy does have eclectic interests so he wants a school that is strong in English/creative writing as well as exercise science. He plans to look at GWU, Skidmore and Ursinus but I’m hoping some experienced people may have more suggestions.
S has a 3.85 W gpa and will take SAT in June.

Wish I could help in the northeast. I’m at Southeast Missouri State University and we’ve got a decent exercise science program and we have a graduate exercise science/nutrition program as well.

I know we have at least one girl here who is from New Jersey who is not here for sports as well…

D is a sophomore at Wake Forest majoring in Health & Exercise Science. Check their website.

I know of someone who is in this major at Rutgers. She is happy with their program, but that is all that I can tell you about it.

Springfield College in Massachusetts, if you are looking for a smaller school, great exercise science and PT programs…

thanks so much everyone, for your replies. I’ll pass them on to my S. This should help him start building his list.
We were unfamiliar with this major until my S attended an open house where exercise science was mentioned.

There’s also Ithaca College, Gordon College, Sacred Heart and Hofstra.

On the larger side, Boston University and Northeastern and UDelaware also have programs.

Maybe Quinnipiac or Muhlenberg?

if he would be open to other areas of the US, have him take a look at the University of South Carolina’s program (flagship branch in Columbia,SC)and also take a look at the merit scholarship opportunities for out of state students available there.

Not in the Northeast but Iowa State has an excellent program.

Another good school in the Southeast that has a program is the University of Virginia. Your son can use the College Board search tool to specify the major, region of the country, etc. to identify a fairly comprehensive list of possibilities. My son is interested in the same major, but not the Northeast.
