Good schools still accepting applications?

I seem to recall that every year there is a list that gets published of colleges which did not fill their freshman class and are accepting applications late in the game. I suspect it won’t come out until after May I, but if anyone knows of a decent school that offers CS, still need students, and has open admission to any major, could you please post the name?

I ran into an acquaintance today whose average excellent son got shut out everywhere except for a very weak university (#60ish in USNWR REGIONAL rankings). I think the family didn’t realize how uber competitive CS admissions are, and assumed that their A student in AP and honors classes would be fine. It seems to me they seriously neglected the match school category, given he is wait-listed at at least one university ranked nationally in the USNWR 20’s. I saw him as fitting within the 30-70 range, though perhaps with that major he’d have to go a bit lower.

UAH should still accept applications.

The ranking of a university does not always take into consideration the quality of a particular program or department.

If cost is no issue and stats good, University of Pittsburgh has rolling admission. They have a good co-op program.

Your fried things a school ranked 60 ish is weak? Really??

^ Regional rankings.

In any case, what state? CC route not a good one?
Need fin aid or merit money?
Gap year is a possibility.
Also maybe still unis in the UK.
Also trying to transfer in (to say, NYU/UMich/UNC) later (depending on financial circumstances)

Northeast and Mid-Atlantic region are best. No aid needed. I think right now the plan is to try to transfer.

Utah State has awesome engineering and does rolling admissions!

The College Board has a list of schools with later deadlines.

Also on May 1 the list of schools with openings is published. Usually someone posts the list on this forum.

NACAC’s Space Available list is usually published shortly after May 1st.

@thumper1 60th ranked regional is pretty weak. FWIW, Hunter College in NYC is ranked at #42 in the North, Brooklyn College at #75, and City College at #85 when City College is considered to be one of the premier CUNY colleges. So I guess there is reason to take these lists with a grain of salt.

What are the stats?

UAH and Miss State are both accepting apps and are strong in CS. At UAH he’d get merit, and maybe Miss State too. UAH would be “less southern” in feel since the students are mostly the children of transplants.

Umd and SUNY stonybrook start taking applications for spring 2018 over the summer.

University of Arizona ranked 40 in CS
Rolling admissions
Automatic non-resident merit scholarship with high SAT/ACT score available if admitted by May 1
Admission process fairly quick if all paperwork in order
