Good things to do in Christmas?

Hey,I am a junior in high school. We have almost 10 days off for vacation.I find it would be so boring during the vacation.I have 2 SAT prep books which i can practice but i can’t find anything else to do.I want to enter a good college. So,any suggestions for me?Since you are all students’ parents so i think you all can show some good advice.I just don’t want to waste my time. Thanks!

Thanks for any response.

you mean besides sleeping? Thats what my kids did, when they weren’t visiting their friends or snowboarding.
learn a new skill-
do you knit or cook?
THose things will come in handy in college
Ask your mom to teach you how to change a tire/oil if you don’t already know how.
If you have neighbors who are older, find out if there is anything you can do to help them. Prune their shrubs away from their house ( read up on it first), or shovel their sidewalk?
How about neighbors that have small children? Take them to the park one day ( you probably will need your friends to help), their parents will appreciate it and I bet you will have a great time.

My school doesn’t give us homework at all,so time is too free.

Thank you, what i often do is sit on the chair all the day without leaving but study nothing,
ugh…I will try to go outside more.

find out if there is a Christmas Bird Count in your area:

you also could look for scholarships- even if most will be geared to seniors, you can see what they are looking for, and what ones you might want to apply to, to keep in mind for next year.

Read stuff you have never gotten a chance to read- a vacation is supposed to be a vacation.
Many kids have homework over break- but if you don’t - take advantage!
:)

Hang out with friends. Go ice skating. Go see a few movies. Go bowling with friends. Read a book. Research a few college online and view their online tours. Just have fun.

Thank you!I feel pressure of having a fun actually.Because my school is relatively under-performing compares to those good schools in suburb,or some other private schools. It could be possible that the time when i am having fun,the kids in those high schools are working hard, cause different schools have different standards. Then i will be in disadvantage when applying to college. So i just want to know what they are doing.

Hope for some details.Thank you very much!

Have fun and enjoy being a kid.

Memorize poems or speeches. It will provide you with quotations to use in difficult situations for the rest of your life.

Learn how to make bread. It’s an old skill but a good one to have. And for some reason, people are impressed by it.

Learn how to make a good roast chicken. It’s harder than you’d think.

Experiment with the other settings on a digital camera.

Learn how to use the bells and whistles–the fancy bits–in a computer program you already have, like Word or Photoshop.

Learn how to mend your own clothes–replace buttons and resew seams.

Make the bed
Do the dishes
Do the laundry
Vacuum
Sweep
Shop for groceries
Clean the bathrooms
Touch-up paint where needed
Drive around doing miscellaneous errands
Return gifts
Feed the dog
Walk the dog
Cook dinner

Read books
Talk with family
Stay up late
Catch up with old friends

Oh, sorry. That’s what I’M going to be doing this holiday break!

These are good ideas!I will take many of them.

Learn how to make a good roast chicken. It’s harder than you’d think.
no it isn’t .
but basting is for flavor not moisture.
Get a good roasting rack- and brine it first.

I just rub Ploughman’s mustard all over it & stick it in the oven- comes out very pretty.

Or you can dump all the files on your phone, because it isn’t working right, lose all your contacts and your SMS messages- then find out it wasn’t your phone, it was the network and spend all the next two days trying to restore your files.
Time will fly by!

Learning to make food is so popular these days,or it has always been popular i just don’t realize, thank you!

um well- very handy to have in college- many kids get pretty sick of dorm food/pizza about the beginning of winter term if not earlier or you can always shock and amaze your parents by offering to make dinner one night.

Plus when you don’t * have to cook* every night, it can be really creative and fun- even a stress reliever.
my daughter bakes for relaxation- she is a big hit in her neighborhood.
